Reefton Spur Ride MKIII

Surprisingly for this club, only six of us (Tim, Dave, Marty, Dennis, Pina, Misho) turned up for this cold Sunday morning; although we would have had a total of eight if Ben and Darryl had realised we had an unusual early start of 9 am.  They set off at 10 am trying to meet up with us, but weren’t quite able to locate us on the ride. We all eventually met up at Rob Langer's house to watch the MotoGP at 4.00pm.

Tim Emons did a fine job as ride leader taking us to our various destinations via the most ‘curliest’ and interesting way possible.  The biggest surprise for the day was when we rode into Marysville and saw a dusting of fine snow beneath the blackened tall trees which only a month ago had been subjected to fierce fires – it was such an eerie site that I initially struggled to make sense of what I was seeing.

We all welcomed the stop at the Marysville bakery as it provided a warm refuge from the chill outside. Marty Thompson subjected us to non-stop entertainment, particularly when recalling stories involving the police he frequently encountered on motorcycle outings.

We finally made our way to Rob Langer’s where the warmth of his home and his hospitality started to defrost my senses and put a happy smile on my face.  It was such a nice occasion for us all to be together – familiar faces, good food, warm and cosy and the MotoGP for entertainment – a great way to end the ride.  Thanks so much, Rob, for opening your house so kindly for us to enjoy – we greatly appreciated it.

Final thanks to Dave Ward who elected to be rear-rider. At one stage he decided to remind us of his presence (just in case we had forgotten about him) by overtaking all of us while performing a most spectacularly entertaining mono… FULLY SICK MATE!  Keep them coming…
